THE LATE MRS GEDDES REID, GLASS

In the Parish Church of Glass on Sunday appropriate reference was made to the death of Mrs Charlotte Geddes Reid, which took place at Kingsknowes, Galashiels, where the deceased lady had resided during the later years  of her life.  Mrs Reid was the youngest sister of the late Sir William Geddes, Principal of Aberdeen University, and of the late Mr Alexander Geddes of Blairmore and like the other members of her family, was a woman of exceptional ability.  She became the second wife of Mr James Reid, of Auchterarder House, who predeceased her many years ago.  In her native parish her name will be kept in remembrance by two bequests made by her during her lifetime – a beautiful and costly service of Communion plate, designed by the late Sir George Reid, P.R.S.A. and “gifted to the Kirk of Glass in reverential memory of her parents, John Geddes and Jean Maconachie,” and “a donation from a friend of the poor,” the interest of which is annually distributed by the Kirk Session.
