Our Fun Run last weekend in memory of Margo Wordie was such a special day for the community.
Over 130 runners, walkers, and cyclists turned up to take part, with a choice of a 10k or a 5k distance. Just a week before, we had only 25 competitors and were tempted to cancel. Thank goodness we didn’t!
Some serious runners from local clubs ended up on the start line. Peter from Moray Road Runners was the winner of the 10k run, finishing in just 48 minutes. However, we have a dark horse in the community in James Yoxall, who led all the way but was pipped at the war memorial! Our 5k winner was Nicola’s fiancé, Davey, while Madison Brown came home first for the gals.
James Wordie did some sterling work as backstop and sweep, making sure all competitors came home safely. James is used to running 80k distances, so this was a walk in the park for him. He ran one section of the route twice and was only just warmed up by the end. James, we salute you!
We were overwhelmed by the number of helpers and participants. The community laid on a terrific tea in usual Glass style, and the hall quickly filled up. Cakes, buns, and bakes soon dwindled as the hungry runners and walkers devoured the lot!
Sarah’s book signing on the day drew a huge amount of interest, and she signed numerous copies. Meanwhile, Nicola’s Farm’her’ merch got an extra boost as folk were able to see firsthand her hats, headgear, jumpers, and hoodies.
The event was a long time in planning. We wanted to do something to commemorate our dear friend Margo, as she contributed so much to this community. With the backing of George, James, Sarah, and Nicola, we thought a fun run was a fitting way to remember her.
The community and family were overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity. The single day raised £2938.23.
All funds raised will be split between Glass Community and Glass Kirk, the family’s two chosen charities.
