We held our Remembrance Service at 2pm on Sunday 12th November. It was a very poignant service led by Rev Calder. Wreaths were laid by James Ingleby on behalf of the Lord Lieutenant and Thomas MacPherson on behalf of Aberdeenshire Council as Chair of the Community Association. Miranda Montgomery, President of the Glass SWI, laid two wreaths, one of red poppies and one of purple to remember all the animals that have lost their lives in service during wartime. The service closed with our local piper, Kevin Scott, playing.
The service was very well attended for our small community, with between 50 and 60 attending and showing their respects. The Hall was busy afterwards with home bakes and refreshments being served. £138.60 was raised in donations which will be sent to Poppy Scotland, thank you to everyone who donated.
Glass Primary School held their own Remembrance Service on Thursday 10th November, with four of the pupils reading poems to remember the fallen and laid their own wreath. The pupils then went on to plant some bulbs in the car park area of The Hall, all in all a very lovely morning.
Many thanks go to the Members of Glass WI along with their family and friends for the poppy display at the memorial this year, which was aided with funding from Cairnie Glass Community Trust. Further thanks go to Brodie Murray of Standing Ovation who illuminated the memorial and display. Final thanks to those members of the GCA committee who arranged the event and the home bakes. All in all, a great collaboration from so many members of the Glass Community.
