We had a fair few events at the end of last year, two of which you have heard about already, the Carol Singing and the Christmas Eve service. To complete the round-up of the year please see a review of the other events held.
Pantomonium: the See Thru Panto, 17th/18th & 19th November
Please read on for the review from A K Ritic. We are still totting up the final figures but so far the credit to Glass Community is £2,112.16. A big thank you to all of you who attended the performances, we hope you enjoyed them as much as we did!
‘Pantomonium’ – a brimming Glass-full of song, dance, laughter and merriment.
See Thru Productions amateur drama group’s first-ever seasonal pantomime packed out the Glass Community Hall last week with a Thursday matinee, followed by Friday and Saturday evening performances. So, “It’s Behind You” for the audiences but they left with happy memories, hoarse from shouting to and fro with the cast, and groaning from the dreadful gags delivered by the three Dames. Well, you can never have too many Dames, can you?
Drawing upon all-time and vintage panto favourites (with a nod to now-vintage ‘Scotland The What?’ too), ranging across Jack with his beans and pail, Red Riding Hood, Ugly Sisters, Geppetto and Pinocchio, Big Bad Wolf, a Fairy Nuff Godmother with apprentices Tink and Bink, Prince Charming, an evil old crone, Little Bo Peep, a singing Belle, Cinderella, a McDonald’s-loving Snow White, a rather tall Wee Willie Winkie and a hypothermic Freezian’ Cow, it was non-stop awful jokes, dance routines and some glorious singing. The adventure-seeking Dick ensured that all the characters achieved their happy-ever-after by the show’s end, with many True Love kisses along the way.
All stops had been well and truly pulled-out to make this a colourful festival of entertainment, which delighted adults and children alike, and made everyone forget the rain and flooding outside; or at least for a couple of hours. COVID lockdowns may have prevented See Thru from rehearsing and performing for two years now but they returned with a blast to outdo any stormy conditions. And they were ably assisted by a superb pianist and the usual first-rate technical team. Just when you think See Thru can’t get better, it does. OH YES IT DOES!

St Andrews Family Night and Ceilidh, 26th November
An annual favourite and another great night in Glass Hall dancing to Broma – Angus Montgomery’s ceilidh band. A full-house where school children under the age of 16 were able to join in for free. Of course dancing went on into the night courtesy of Standing Ovation which donated its services FOC. Thank you Standing Ovation! Fund raising is not a priorty at this event – we are always just keen to break even – which we did. The raffle bolstered the ticket sales and we made a small overall profit of approximately £30.
Christmas Wine Tasting, 3rd December
The winter wine tasting kicked off the Hall’s pre-Christmas events. Attendance was a little lower due to illness and bad weather but those who joined in had ten excellent wines to sample, and there was some very enthusiastic imbibers of the vinous libations! Two wines were kindly donated by Jack Ingleby with the others sourced from a variety of locations. Detailed tasting notes & where to buy them can be found on the following link click here.
This event raised £220 towards GCA funds.
Thanks to our volunteer helpers: Alisha, Sonsi, Paul, & Robin, and organisers: Tom and Marc. We’ll do a winter tasting next year and plans are afoot for a summer beer festival.
Hogmanay Party
Another brilliant Hogmanay at the hall – Glass turned up in spectacular style to bring in the bells. We all had a real treat eating and drinking, with entertainment flowing, followed by a ceilidh and some dangerous disco dancing.
The variety show at New Year’s Eve is a renowned event in the community calendar. This year, our live entertainment was provided by Sonsi Reeve, Nikki Yoxall, Angus Montgomery, Kitty Sykes, Steve Brown, Lizzie Montgomery, Brenda Foubister, Alistair Robson, James Yoxall and Hugh Montgomery. (we’ll never look at those boys the same again…)
The audience was also shown an ‘ad break’… special thanks to Rob and Bob Yuill, Tom McPherson, Sam and Mel Robson, Ruth Wright and the Wilkinson clan for being part of these videos. Here are the links, for those of you who weren’t there… have a laugh!

The entertainment was rounded off by the showing of Michty Mia which was filmed during the omicron outbreak last year. If you have not yet seen this – the link is here too. https://youtu.be/uHu7swMieNg
Thanks to everyone who brought food, there was lots of it and plenty to go round… served by a very glam bunch of dinner ladies!
Steve Brown piped (and hyped) us into the new year, dancing went on into the wee small hours of the morning…
Huge thanks to Eoin Harrold for gritting the car park, and to Alan Duff for cleaning the hall in preparation for the party. The great Sunday morning clear up was very generously done by Marc Day, Louise Aitchison, Rachael Ashley and the Yuill’s… you’d never know anyone had been in there!
After expenses, a total of £375.74 was raised for the association. Thank you all for coming along and supporting this wonderful community.
All the best for 2023, see you same time this year! Brodie, Angus, Callum and Lizzie
The Committee would also like to say a “big thank you” to Lizzie, Angus, Brodie and Callum for their amazing organisation of the Hogmanay Party, what a splendid job you all did!
We will start planning for 2023 Events at the first Committee Meeting of the year, next week and will be in touch soon.
